POZO FARM---PARTNER WITH THE SUN
A primary goal in the development of Pozo Farm is sustainability--economically and environmentally. A small farm is often not very profitable so decisions must be made carefully and raising heritage breed animals and growing organically can be very challenging. One of our first decisions was to eliminate electricity costs by completely powering our home and farm with solar energy--hence our partnership with the Sun. Our decision was also motivated by the cost of extending electric power to our newly acquired property--that cost was roughly equivalent to the cost of installing multiple solar systems.
Solarworld PanelsThe farm actually has three separate solar systems: 1) Major system for the house;
2) Small system for a house well; 3) System for farm well, shop, and lights for chicken house and horse barn. |
Outback InverterThe House and Farm solar systems convert solar energy at 24V-48V to normal household current of 110-120V. The House well is a direct 12V system that pumps water when the sun shines.

Batteries for Energy StorageSolar Energy is stored in 6 volt, 370AH battery systems for both the house and farm. The house batteries send 48V to the inverter which converts the electricity to useable 110-120V.
